The Etsy Listing Translation SEO Checklist (Titles, Tags, Descriptions)

June 28, 2026 · ListingTranslator Team

Translating an Etsy listing is not the same as translating a paragraph of text. Etsy enforces hard format limits, and search behaviour differs by market. Use this checklist before publishing any translated listing.

Title checklist

  • Maximum 140 characters — Etsy rejects longer titles.
  • Lead with the keyword native buyers actually search, not a literal translation of your English keyword.
  • Keep brand names, model names and material trade names in the original.

Tags checklist

  • Use all 13 tags — empty tag slots are wasted ranking opportunities.
  • Each tag maximum 20 characters, lowercase, no special punctuation.
  • Translate tags as search queries: think "what would a Madrid buyer type?" not "what is the dictionary translation?".
  • Multi-word tags beat single words — "collar personalizado" outranks "collar" for intent.

Description checklist

  • Preserve your paragraph structure and line breaks — walls of text kill conversion.
  • Convert units for the market: 5 inches (12.7 cm) for European buyers.
  • Keep care instructions and shipping notes — they reduce returns and bad reviews.

What never to translate

Brand names, product model names, material trade names (e.g. "sterling silver 925" hallmarks) and your shop name should stay exactly as they are. Buyers search for these terms verbatim.
